Née à Singapour en 1980 d’une famille shanghaïenne, Fiona Sze-Lorrain, de nationalité française, a fait ses études aux États-Unis et en France. Écrivaine, poétesse, traductrice, musicienne et éditrice aux multiples talents, elle est reconnue pour sa voix singulière qui transcende les genres et les cultures. Elle figure parmi les rares femmes écrivaines anglophones à maîtriser de multiples expressions artistiques, écrivant et traduisant des œuvres en anglais, en français et en chinois.
Ses contributions littéraires comprennent le roman en nouvelles Dear Chrysanthemums (Scribner, 2023), cinq recueils de poésie – dont les plus récents Rain in Plural (Princeton, 2020) et The Ruined Elegance (Princeton, 2016) – ainsi que vingt ouvrages traduits et trois anthologies de littérature internationale qu’elle a codirigées. Le talent de Fiona Sze-Lorrain lui a valu une reconnaissance considérable. Elle a figuré sur la liste des nominés pour la médaille Andrew Carnegie 2024 pour l’excellence en fiction et pour le prix PEN 2014 de poésie traduite. Elle vit à Paris, où elle est éditrice chez Vif Éditions. Elle est membre du jury du Dublin Literary Award 2025 et du premier John Calder Translation Prize. She stands out as one of the few English-language women writers adept in multiple artistic expressions, crafting and translating works in English, French, and Chinese.
Her literary contributions include the novel in stories Dear Chrysanthemums (Scribner, 2023), five poetry collections—most recently Rain in Plural (Princeton, 2020) and The Ruined Elegance (Princeton, 2016)—as well as twenty books of translation and three coedited anthologies of international literature. A 2019–20 Abigail R. Cohen Fellow at the Columbia University Institute for Ideas and Imagination, Sze-Lorrain was the inaugural writer-in-residence at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires. She resides in Paris, where she is an editor at Vif Éditions. She is a judge for the 2025 Dublin Literary Award and the inaugural John Calder Translation Prize.
